Coins Included in the Set

Each set contains five iconic and uncirculated U.S. coins from the baby’s birth year:

  • Kennedy Half Dollar
  • Washington Quarter
  • Roosevelt Dime
  • Jefferson Nickel
  • Lincoln Cent (Penny)

These coins are not just currency—they’re miniature pieces of American history, each with its own story and significance.

Historical Significance of Each Coin

Kennedy Half Dollar
First minted in 1964, the Kennedy Half Dollar was created to honor President John F. Kennedy following his assassination in 1963. Designed by Gilroy Roberts (obverse) and Frank Gasparro (reverse), the coin quickly became a symbol of national mourning and unity. The original 1964 version was composed of 90% silver, making it highly collectible. Today, the Kennedy Half Dollar remains a powerful emblem of American leadership and legacy.

Washington Quarter
Introduced in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birth, the Washington Quarter replaced the Standing Liberty design. Sculpted by John Flanagan, the coin features Washington’s profile and has undergone several reverse design changes over the decades, including the 50 State Quarters, America the Beautiful, and American Women Quarters series. The Washington Quarter is a lasting tribute to the nation’s first president and a staple of U.S. coinage.

Roosevelt Dime
The Roosevelt Dime debuted in 1946, shortly after the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Designed by John R. Sinnock, the coin honors Roosevelt’s leadership during the Great Depression and World War II, as well as his support for the March of Dimes, a campaign to combat polio. The reverse features a torch flanked by olive and oak branches, symbolizing liberty, peace, and strength. Originally minted in 90% silver, the dime transitioned to a copper-nickel composition in 1965.

Jefferson Nickel
The Jefferson Nickel was first issued in 1938, replacing the Buffalo Nickel. Designed by Felix Schlag, the coin showcases President Thomas Jefferson on the obverse and his Virginia estate, Monticello, on the reverse. During World War II, from 1942 to 1945, the nickel’s composition changed to include silver and manganese to conserve nickel for the war effort. In 2006, the obverse was updated to a forward-facing portrait by Jamie Franki, while the reverse returned to Schlag’s original Monticello design. The Jefferson Nickel reflects both historical continuity and wartime innovation.

Lincoln Cent (Penny)
The Lincoln Cent, introduced in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, was the first U.S. coin to feature a real person. Designed by Victor David Brenner, the original reverse displayed two wheat stalks (1909–1958), later replaced by the Lincoln Memorial (1959–2008), and then the Union Shield (2010–present). The Lincoln Cent has undergone several compositional changes, transitioning from 95% copper to a copper-plated zinc format in 1982. It remains the longest-running coin design in U.S. history and a symbol of unity and perseverance.
