The third State Quarter of 2006 features a simple yet majestic tableau from the state of “Colorful Colorado.” Longs Peak, the mountain featured in the design, is one of 54 peaks in Colorado that reach past 14,000 feet in height, and are known affectionately as the “Fourteeners.”

U.S. Mint artists used Colorado’s popular nickname, “Colorful Colorado,” as the centerpiece for a State Quarter design that celebrates the state’s natural beauty with an inspiring vista of the Rocky Mountains.
