The 1999 New Jersey Quarter features a rendering of George Washington crossing the Delaware River. The design is based on the 1851 painting by Emmanuel Leutze which hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Underneath, the words โCrossroads of the Revolutionโ are printed. The Commemorative Coin Design Commission selected the design by unanimous vote.
