The Mississippi quarter design for the Magnolia State, features a pair of Magnolia flowers. The large, white blossom of the magnolia tree was designated the state flower because of the abundance of trees throughout the state. The magnolia is an evergreen and the flower is usually fragrant.

The Minnesota Quarter celebrates the stateโ€™s most abundant resources: the beautiful woods and waters of the โ€œLand of 10,000 Lakes.โ€ The design features two fishermen, small surprise for a quarter unveiled at the Governorโ€™s Fishing Opener on May 14, 2004. They share their lake with Minnesotaโ€™s state bird, the Common Loon.

Michigan is one of the few states which can be recognized from space. The stateโ€™s unique outline takes center stage in the Michigan Quarter. โ€œGreat Lakes Stateโ€ is the theme of the design, which features a detailed relief of the state and the outline of all five of the Great Lakes.

Massachusetts Quarter

The 2000 Massachusetts Quarter features a minuteman posed in front of the state outline, with a star marking Boston, the stateโ€™s capital. The term โ€œminutemenโ€ particularly describes men who were enrolled for service by the Massachusetts provincial congress. Named for their readiness at a minuteโ€™s notice, minutemen were armed citizens who led the initial battles of the American Revolution.

Maryland Quarter

Maryland Quarter

Maryland became the 7th state to enter the union on April 28, 1788. The 2000 Maryland Quarter features the Maryland State House Dome and the stateโ€™s nickname, โ€œThe Old Line State.โ€ Some historians trace the nickname to General George Washington, who bestowed it upon the state to salute Marylandโ€™s regular line troops in the Revolutionary War.
